the surface, less-than-adequate design appeared to be

Their

we looked deeper, we found that less than one in one
hundred business sites had the correct elements in
place and
implemented
properly to help those sites attract, convert,
and sustain new and repeat business with their prospects,

and clients.
Sure,
much
of the design work was outdated and the business owners
were too scared to go through another bad situation
to have it redone. But it
was the missing marketing elements that should have
been incorporated into the design to begin with that
hurt those business sites the most.
